CAIS Annual Event Kindles Students’ Interest in STEM
March 18, 2021
Grades 7-12 students participated in a series of activities including Sci-Pi Amazing Race and Micro:bit Challenge in the annual STEM Week held between 8 and 12 March.
Coding was a major highlight of this year’s event where students used Micro:bit – a small computer designed to power internet-connected projects – to create an automated parcel delivery journey.
Aimed at equipping students with vital competencies and critical thinking skills, the week-long STEM event saw students make connection between “abstract ideas and real-world outcomes by working with software and hardware together: designing, building, prototyping, iterating (the experience of improving a design, as well as making mistakes and learning from them)” – as described by Micro:bit.
The annual STEM celebration was held a week after the Coding Experience Day, which provided Grade 6 students a foretaste of coding language and helped them with a smooth transition to secondary science education.
